In October 1871 the Pacific Lodge (No 5TC)* moved to the Freemasons Hall in Collins Street, Hobart. Lodge members attended the laying of the foundation stone by the Governor Charles Du Cane for the new Lodge in 1873. On the 26th of August the Lodge held its first meeting at the new hall in Murray Street, Hobart.

In 1874 the Pacific Lodge petitioned for a new Lodge at Sorell. A warrant was sent for a Lodge named Pembroke (named after the district). The Lodge at Sorell never went ahead but the warrant and name ended up being used by Lodge Pembroke (No. 1517 E.C.)† who met at Lefroy in the Georgetown District.

The active history of Lodge Pembroke, No 74 on the register of the Grand Lodge of Tasmania, is nowhere near as long as other Lodges within Tasmania, but we have been around since 1959 and celebrated a half century of active Masonic duty in 2009.

This website features not only the resources and activity of Lodge Pembroke, but its service to the local community and support to the Brethren who are fortunate to have been, or still are, members.

Appearing here over time will be a history of Lodge Pembroke since its Consecration in 1959, as well as the events leading up to the formation of the Lodge.

This history is extensive, right down to the finer points of the Lodge Officers and Brethren, but will take some time to extract from the archives and place online.

So, please, bear with us as we uncover the proud history of the first half century of Lodge Pembroke.
